Which Window Treatments Are the Most Privacy Friendly?04/30/2018Stefano Diotaiuti Your home is your sanctuary, and if you think like the majority of homeowners, finding Nashville window treatments that offer privacy and sound control to maintain your sanctuary is important to you. Any window treatment is more effective than an uncovered window. Yet there are some window treatments that offer more privacy than others, particularly on specialty windows.Providing Privacy on Windows That Are Hard to CoverAll of the large, rectangular windows in your home are a snap to cover with almost any window treatment including Nashville shutters, drapes, or blinds|. However, there are some situations when you need a specific kind of window treatment to achieve the level of privacy you need. These could be:Windows in the bathroom where water and humidity can ruin fabric window treatments.Sidelight windows that are long and thin on which window treatments can be knocked around when you use the door.Specialty-shape windows such as arches, circular windows, bay windows, etc., where conventional rectangular blinds and curtains can’t cover your window without hiding the window’s unique shape.Big windows that can be difficult to reach such as second-story foyer windows. In these instances, you want window treatments that go the extra mile to add privacy to your house. As a bonus, look for window treatments that can block sound to keep outside noises outside and keep inside noise inside. The Best Window Treatments for PrivacyThe most privacy-friendly window treatment we recommend are Polywood® plantation shutters. Plantation shutters are able to fully close, for when complete privacy and light control is what you want. To let light in and see outdoors, just tilt the louvers. For taller windows, you can always position the louvers at an angle so light can come in but passersby can’t see in. Indoor shutters are also great for specialty-shaped windows because they can be customized to fit any shape or size. And since Polywood shutters are water resistant, they’re an excellent choice for bathrooms.Another privacy-friendly window treatment is roller shades. Roller shades take up very little space at the top of the window, but are easy to pull down to prevent any views from outside your home. Though they can’t be cut to fit unique window shapes, you can find roller shapes made from water resistant material for areas like your bathrooms.Window Treatments that Don’t Protect Your PrivacyWhile any window treatment gives you at least some privacy, there are two that aren’t as great as those we’ve mentioned. The first is sheer curtains. Sheer curtains were popular years ago and can add a an airy feeling to a room. Yet they don’t offer the level of privacy of other window treatments, particularly at night.Another window treatment we don’t recommend for privacy are cheap or heavy blinds, which can snap or get stuck at a certain angle. If you can’t close the blinds all the way because of breakage, then they’re not doing you any favors for privacy.Ready for Window Treatments that Maintain Your Privacy? If you're looking for window treatments to maximize your privacy, then give us a call at 615-236-8530 or complete the form below to set up a free in-home consultation.
